The Eau Claire Shamrocks moved to 6-2 on the season and 2-1 in the region to keep their playoff hopes alive with a 44-40 win over Batesburg-Leesville on Tuesday evening. The Shamrocks were led in scoring by Andrew Owens who scored 15 points and totaled 12 rebounds while William Brown chipped in with 8 points and 8 rebounds. The Shamrocks jumped out to an early 9-2 lead and held it going into halftime with a 24-17 advantage. The second half for the Shamrocks has been an adventure and that trend continued again last night. The Shamrocks allowed Batesburg to get as close as 1 point in a back and forth second half until the Shamrocks were able to secure the lead and the victory late in the 4th quarter. “We take pride in having the best defense in the state of South Carolina” stated Coach Hunter, but he also stated that they have to find a way to hold on and extend leads while improving their offensive execution. The Shamrocks look to move their record to 7-2 against Batesburg at home this Friday and will have 2 games next week vs. Newberry High School for what looks like two games that will likely decide who gets at least 2nd place in the region.
