Boys Varsity Basketball · Eau Claire vs. Saluda

The Eau Claire Shamrocks boys’ basketball team defeated Saluda High School by the score of 54-45 on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. The Shamrocks opened the game with a 15-5 run and kept the lead steady at halftime with a score of 27-17. The Shamrocks forced 17 turnovers in the first half and had it not been for an injury to their all-region player from last year Andrew Owens, it would have been an almost perfect half of basketball. With Mr. Owens out of the game Saluda went on a 16-1 run in the third quarter and led briefly at 30-28. When Mr. Owens returned, the Shamrocks went on a quick 6-2 run and never trailed for the remainder of the game. Both teams were playing without their leading scores due to Covid related issues. Rickie Murray came off of the bench and steadied the team with his quickness and ball-handling ability. Saluda used a full-court trapping defense that seem to give the Shamrocks problems, but Rickie Murray really handled the pressure well and played big minutes for the Shamrocks. The Shamrocks were lead statistically by William Brown(10pts, 7rebs) Jamodicus Singleton(10pts, 5steals), and Andrew Owens(9pts, 8 rebs)
